The Jungle Temple

The first temple model I designed and created, the Jungle Temple was a great way to learn new techniques and experiment in this tiny scale.

Raw Prints - Base and Temple
The base and temple are 3d printed on a resin printer. Designed and modeled myself on Rhino 8.
Carving the Terrain
Here, I begin with large masses of what will become the terrain once carved and painted
Adding Trees
Once the terrain is in place, I use small dowels to test where trees or other foliage may fit in

Painting the Terrain
For the carved foam terrain, I start with a orange-brown before dry brushing on greens to give a convincing jungle rock look.
Adding Foliage
After the terrain is fully painted, I begin adding vines and small trees into the landscape until the desired effect is reached.
Putting it all Together
All parts are complete, so now I put the temple in, and attach it to the base.

The Temple Models:
The Desert Temple
Project Date: May 2024

My second temple model, the desert temple, is meant to be carved into the side of a mountain. Inspired by the real rock-cut temples of Petra, this temple features columns and a similar overall shape.

Massing - Mountain Terrain
The first step on this model was to put many 1/2 foam core pieces together vertically to carve the mountain.
Making the Temple Hole
Once the foam core reached a height I was satisfied with, I traced the outside of the resin printed temple and cut a hole to fit it into.
Carving the Mountain
I now begin creating a mountainous shape by carving the vertically stacked foam core pieces.
Painting the Mountain
As with the Jungle Temple, I paint the whole terrain with the orange-brown paint. As it is set in the desert, there is no green to dry brush
Finished Temple
Though a few small details are added after this picture is taken such as the fossils and a smattering of foliage, the temple is largely done

The Temple Models:
The Island Temple
Project Date: August 2024

My final temple model, the Island Temple is my favorite of the three as it taught me the most about miniature modeling- water techniques, sand, and rockwork. This model, in some ways, is a culmination of my previous two temples, but also is a unique model that presents new features.

The Beach Shape
As this model is set on an island, I wanted a large portion of it to be water. So, the beach takes up three sides, and only the edges.
Making Waves
For the water, I used plexiglass above painted foam core. Then, I used a gloss gel with a sponge to make waves in the water at this scale..
Adding the Temple
Once the waves and beach are painted, I moved to testing the location of the temple itself.
Massing the Mountains
I start with solid 1/2" foam core pieces to design the mountains that surround the temple.
Painting the Carved Mountains
Once the mountains are carved, I begin painting them. I start with a grey, and then dry brush on browns until the desired effect is achieved
Putting it Together
After everything is dry, I do another coat on the temple to bring out the high points, add the white stripe, and glue it in place.

Viking Homestead
Project Date: April 2025 - June 2025

Inspired by the How to Train your Dragon animated films, the Viking Homestead model is my first to feature motion. Starting with just the base and the house, the project grew to include a working windmill and a few dragon homes.

The Pieces
Made by hand with wood, all the elements of this model were designed and built specifically for this project
House Close-Up
The house itself started as part of a 4x4 chunk of wood that was cut down to have the iconic shape seen in the Isle of Berk
Shingles
Seen here are the raw shingles from the laser cutter, each row cut individually and glued onto the house one at a time.
Shingled House
Once the shingles are on the house, I am ready to begin painting
Painting- Pt. 1
I begin with a solid dark brown primer spray paint, before adding brighter colors to the shingles on the house

Once the house is completed, I paint the windmill with a similar process
Painting the Rockwork
I move onto the terrain now, where I start with the rocks that hold up the higher portion of the model where the house sits.
Stepping Stones
I next cut out smaller stones with MDF and a bandsaw. These become the stepping stones to indicate a pathway.

Now that the stones are in place, I paint them with dark gray, then dry brush on lighter grays and mossy greens.
Motion
At this point, I add a motor to the windmill such that it can spin on its own using a battery power source.
Foliage
Concurrently with the motor, I begin to add bushes to the model to bring more life into the scene. This also adds a nice new pop of color.
The Dragon Homes
Based on bird houses, I next add a multi-level dragon nesting area. The house on the right has two dragons currently sleeping in it
Top Down of Finished Model
With the model nearly finished, I add a few finishing touches with banners and flags, then call the model finished.

Jurassic Park Gate
Project Date: November 2024

One of the most iconic sets in the Jurassic Park franchise, the Jurassic Park Gate that I made out of concrete is a stylized adaptation of the original design. While keeping most elements the same, some elements were changed in order to make this project actually made out of cast concrete.

Designing the Mold
In order to cast this model out of concrete, I laser cut a shape to have something that I could trace to make my mold.
Creating the Mold
For the mold, I used scrap wood that was available to me in my school's woodshop. This was a rough job, because it would all be discarded.
Casting the Concrete
With the mold done, I was ready to pour the concrete mix in and let it set overnight.
Free Standing Concrete
With the mold removed, the gate massing was able to stand on its own. While the project was far from completion, the biggest part was done.
Patching the Concrete
The mold had some issues, including the skinny points that occur right before the arch of the gate begins. I tried patching this with glue.
Painting the Letters
After laser cutting the logo, I painted them first with a flat red spray before going in with yellow acrylic paint to do the borders.

When the glue didn't quite hold, I mixed up some more concrete and patched the weak points.
Making the Doors, Pt. 1
Using more scrap wood, I made the rough shape of the doors at the same scale.

Using laser cut chipboard, I attached the second layer of detail to the doors.
Painting the Doors
I next hit the doors with a dark brown spray paint to achieve the desired color. I also add some toy dinos to bring some fun to the model.
Painting the Base
Next, the base starts getting painted. As I plan on adding foliage, I just use a single green color for the grass parts.
Foliage
With the base fully painted, I begin to add the detail of the foliage. Bushes and vines are added, as well as indications of the torches.

Coruscant Underworld
Project Date: August 2024

A model that began as just a simple noodle shop concept, I expanded the idea to contain multiple buildings that create a kind of film set at a small scale.

Scaled to fit with 3.75 inch figures, this model is roughly 1:18 scale. It was one of the most fun dioramas I worked on, and there is still much to do that I hope to get to in the future

I first printed out the elevations of the facade of the first building. I then attached it to foam core and began cutting
